Staff Reviews

Libba Bray, author of the hilarious novel Beauty Queens, has stepped into a different level of storytelling with her novel The Diviners.
She tackles the subject of magic and evil in a way only she can. It is a complicated read, and those used to her writing style might be taken aback by how different her approach is to writing with this book.
The characters are fresh and inspired, and the story, set in New York City in the 1920’s, is a tale full of the kind of energy and pacing that excites a reader.
Those who are not familiar with Bray’s work will be surprised by how the book flows, with each character being fleshed out and made real. The character development in The Diviners is its greatest asset, and as you read you get lost in the world of magic and divination that is explored in the book.
This is a writer that just keeps getting better, and anyone who wants to see someone hitting their stride in mastering their craft should read this book.
