Feeling pressured to be a victor of women's liberation, Penny experiences the struggles for success and respect. Spending her life filing papers and fetching coffee resulted in the need for a new frontier of freedom instead of goals set by others. Being an ambitious attorney, and the need for approval from professors, Penny felt the pressures of fashion and politics rather than her true passion in life, and now dreams of reclaiming power and authority to reconstruct gender roles dance in her head. Enter C. Linus Maxwell, a tycoon and aristocrat who has side-stepped marriages several times over, who is constantly viewed by the public and tabloids for his adoration and riches that could be bestowed upon the lucky female of his choosing. A chance meeting creates a date for Penny in which the whole world will be watching. She has now gone from miserable and invisible to the spotlight of many eyes. Maxwell rains his offensive compliments of being text book average onto Penny, yet his charisma persuades her to become his scientific biological experiment. A guinea pig or laboratory rat if you will. Believing that chronic mental and physical ailments of the female gender can be easily cured with the right tools, Penny soon uncovers a sinister scheme that could change the female condition as we know it.
Chuck Palahniuk has created a controversial storyline of women who have been excluded from the full pleasures available to their bodies. Beautiful You begins as a line of women's personal care products packaged in attractive pink wrapping under the umbrella of a rich corporation goes wrong only in a way formed by the creative mind of Palahniuk. As the characters are formed and the story unfolds the reader will sense the primal animal impulses clashing with modern technology resulting in an evolutionary discovery. Entertaining humor is consistently wrapped around the medical jargon used by Palahniuk to describe his sexually addicted society that uses artificial overstimulated products, weighing down the present generation. The reader will be introduced to the character Penny, as the guide and solution for the female species to this dilemma. Fans of Palahniuk will love this endeavor into the dystopia of the female gender that creates a paranoid male hysteria. A full recommendation is given for this edgy humorous book.
