Fire is a prequel to Graceling.
Our heroine Fire is an outcast in her society. She is a human monster in a world filled with monsters.
Fire’s monster is her exceptional beauty, which will drive you to insanity, destruction, or unnatural love.
Fire is cautious of her gift because her father did horrible things with it. We are back in the world of the Dells just like Graceling. The kingdom is in turmoil and the king and prince have no option but to ask for Fire’s help. Though they don’t trust her, she is their only hope. This is a brilliant book filled with amazing creatures, strange powers and political tension. It is a fast paced and complex novel that will keep you enthralled. If you are a fan of historical fiction/fantasy, you will love this book. If you are a Graceling fan, you must meet Fire. Though technically a YA it has very adult themes.
“If Kristin Cashore's Graceling was a jewel, Fire is a treasure trove. In this fast-paced fantasy, we remain in the same mythical kingdom but, this time, with a host of new characters, who are marvelous in their complexity and variety. There is plenty of action, a mystery or two, and intrigue galore.”

It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. War is coming. And the mountains and forest are filled with spies and thieves. This is where Fire lives, a girl whose beauty is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her.
Exquisitely romantic, this companion to the highly praised Graceling has an entirely new cast of characters, save for one person who plays a pivotal role in both books. You don't need to have read Graceling to love Fire. But if you haven't, you'll be dying to read it next.
