I never quite understood why writers used pen names. Wouldn’t their fans read everything they wrote? That is until Red Hill by Jamie Mcguire. I am and was a huge fan of Beautiful Disaster, a book that spawned a ton of imitations and a new genre. It was with that book in mind that when I was given a copy of Red Hill, I was ecstatic to say the least. Red Hill was not Beautiful Disaster; it was the extreme opposite of it. It took me a while of picking it up and putting it down to get past it. It took me three weeks to clear my mind and focus on the book, not the writer. I still loved her style of writing but this was a different book and I needed to get past it. Red Hill is a story of different people in a terrible situation finding their way to a sanctuary in a horrible catastrophe. You follow a different set of characters as they try to escape a horrible epidemic that has taken over and the struggle of Scarlet, our Heroine, as she tries to find her children in the middle of it. Each group is connected in some one way and they all have one destination, Red Hill. She is brutal in her depictions of what you would do to survive and no one is spared. Life is precious and you never take for granted that there will be a happy ending. It is a great apocalyptic novel. The premise is believable; things happen quickly, the deaths are brutal, gripping and terrifying. If you are a Walking Dead fan, then you will love this book. I am not a fan of these types of books, but she did an amazing job of creating that sense of panic, fear and love. All emotions wrapped up in one book. The book is out now and it really is worth your time and money.

When the world ends, can love survive?
When the world ends, can love survive?
For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone means fighting for tomorrow is an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.
When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.
Set against the backdrop of a brilliantly realized apocalyptic world, love somehow finds a way to survive. But what happens when the one you’d die for becomes the one who could destroy you?
Red Hill grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go until its stunning conclusion. This is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jamie McGuire at her unforgettable best.
