A simple but comprehensive guide to the vast subject of oriental rugs, including a unique color-coded chart, a price guide, and valuable buying and owning advice
A perfect introduction to the infinite variety of oriental rugs available, this book offers a comprehensive view in a well-organized fashion. Nothing adds more character and distinction to even the smallest of rooms than an oriental rug, but the vast choice and the difficulty of assessing value frequently intimidates the inexperienced purchaser. This guide offers valuable practical guidance on the different types of rug for everyday furnishing purposes and the pitfalls that await the unwary buying at auctions, clearly presented photographic examples of the rugs, a color-coded chart to help with décor schemes, and a price guide.
About the Author
Gordon Redford Walker has been the owner of the Oriental Rug Gallery in England for the last 25 years, and has handled thousands of rugs, dealing not just with individuals but also with corporate clients and their architects and decor consultants. He has lectured widely and his articles have appeared in many publications. He now operates a brokerage service in London which is effectively the international clearing center for the trade.
"Walker has done a more than credible job in delivering the data about Oriental rugs. With little ceremony, some choice words, and acres of pictures, he draws a recognizable portrait of Eastern good, bad, and so-so floor coverings." —Booklist
